Presentation of Cheque to Whitehaven Community Trust

The Whitehaven Methodist Circuit, consisting of 8 Methodist Chapels throughout Copeland, from Seascale to Moresby Parks, and a Local Ecumenical Project at Kirkland, chose the Whitehaven Community Trust - Supported Accommodation Project, as their Circuit Charity for the Methodist church year of 2007/2008.The Circuit adopts a separate charity every year, and money-raising activities are entirely independent of collections in the Sunday services.
The chapels raised funds for this charity by a variety of means through the year - coffee mornings, sales, church family Christmas Cards and so on - and have managed to reach a total of £600.

A cheque for this was presented to Kerry Maxwell of the Whitehaven Community Trust by the Circuit Superintendent the Reverend Philip Peacock and his new colleague the Reverend Gerry Wilson. The picture shows the cheque presentation at the occasion of the circuit welcome service for Gerry and his wife Hilary, who have just moved into the area from Brixham in Devon.
Kerry said that the donation really will make a difference to the Supported Accommodation Projects. The purpose of the Projects is to encourage independent living skills and to offer a stable home environment to vulnerable young people. The Trust has two hostels: 1 Lowther Street and Bakewell House. Over 110 young people have lived at Bakewell House since its opening in September 1998, on average for about 17 weeks.
